Residents and businesses in market towns and rural areas in Derbyshire have been given the opportunity to experience for the first time hyperfast broadband speeds thanks to telecoms companies Commsworld and FullFibre.
Commsworld, a leading UK-wide provider of networking and connectivity solutions, was chosen by FullFibre to provide a 100GB connection between the Derby Exchange and Telehouse North Two, Europe’s most advanced data centre in London.
This connection provides a step change in the capacity needed for people in the area, who are used to much slower internet speeds, to access much faster full-fibre broadband through their Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
Not only that, but Commsworld managed to deliver the connection – known as a backhaul wavelength which links local exchanges to internet exchanges, boosting the speed and resiliency at which internet traffic can be carried – in just 18 working days.
Commsworld was able to provide this boost so quickly – compared to the industry norms of 45 to 90 working days – as it manages and controls the largest privately-funded optical core network in the country.
This gives it the capacity to provide the scalable bandwidth needed to provide a resilient, reliable and cost-effective service. It means anywhere in the UK, no matter how remote, can connect to a very fast, high quality, robust network.
The move is a huge boost to wholesale network provider FullFibre, which specialises in building fibre optic networks offering Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) to residents and businesses in market towns in the county and other surrounding areas currently overlooked by incumbent network builders.
It means the areas where it has already built its new networks can access this superior capacity, through their ISPs, immediately.
Steve Wood, Group Sales Director for Commsworld, said: “We are delighted to have been able to deliver this 100GB wavelength backhaul connection between Derby and Telehouse North Two at lightning speed for FullFibre.
“This underlines that Commsworld is one of the UK’s leading companies when it comes to delivering network capacity that is also resilient, reliable and cost-effective. This success further strengthens the partnership we have with FullFibre, which is doing excellent work offering FTTP to communities across Derbyshire.”
Ross Duke, CTO at FullFibre, said: “Having Commsworld provide this backhaul in such a rapid turnaround has really been an enabler in our expanding network build. It allows us to continue to build at pace and, thanks to Commsworld’s expertise, our partners are able to continue to serve residents within the county.
“Not only was this completed at high cadence, but Commsworld’s expertise has been indispensable throughout the entire process.
“We look forward to continuing our build in the area, safe in the knowledge that the extra 100 Gigabit capacity is already in place. This in turn will lead to further partnership opportunities in the other areas where we are building in the UK.”
