Earlier this month, TheCityUK and PwC released a report recommending measures to ensure the UK’s financial services sector remains competitive after Brexit.
One of its most interesting proposals was for a “digital skills visa” that would protect digital innovation in the face of changes to immigration rules.
Companies across all sectors of the economy are already feeling the shortage of employees with high-level digital skills and the problem will only get worse if the talent pool shrinks on leaving the European Union. Companies and individuals need simple, flexible arrangements that support startups and SMEs as well as recognising regional variations in salary levels.
We know this is an issue that matters to our members and our research and policy team is currently developing proposals on a future immigration system that would serve the needs of Scotland’s digital technologies industry and allow businesses to continue to thrive.
Our research and policy manager, Svea Miesch is keen to hear from members with suggestions to ensure that any post Brexit visa/ immigration system meets the needs of the Scottish industry to continue to hire and retain international talent. To get involved, email svea.miesch@scotlandis.com.
We have also created a series of Brexit Briefings to help our members navigate the issues that matter most to business.
