Can you give us a little background on your company please?

Tell us about a business challenge you have faced (new product designed/client challenge/etc)?
Capito has helped customers solve many IT problems over the years, including The Glasgow Science Centre.
One of Scotland’s most popular visitor attractions and an independent Scottish education charity, Glasgow Science Centre attracts more than 300,000 visitors each year including 70,000 school children. Such large visitor numbers bring a host of challenges, particularly during peak holiday periods, which were causing data processing problems in their ticketing and finance services. With record numbers year-on-year, the Centre was experiencing longer waiting times on entrance due to the processing times involved, which could be a frustrating experience for large groups of school kids or families eager to get into the Centre, as well as the staff.
What was your solution?
With a direct correlation between data storage and the visitor experience, Glasgow Science Centre needed their IT storage systems to be fast, responsive and reliable. Capito recommended an all-flash Pure Storage solution to address the speed issues they were experiencing. The Pure Evergreen Storage model upgrade paths would also help achieve long-term savings for the organisation.
Tell us about the benefits of your solution to the initial problem?
Since transferring over to Pure Storage, the issues have reduced almost to zero and a data reduction of 3.4 to 1, which the Science Centre expects to reduce further over time. They are also now managing all storage across three rack units, using only 670w of power in all.
The Pure Storage array that Capito recommended and helped install has reduced Glasgow Science Centre’s storage management requirements, even more so since there is no need for patching or controlling volumes.
Why did you join ScotlandIS?
We are passionate about the sector we work in, and wanted to be an active part of the IT community. Being a member also gives you a platform and a voice if you want to influence digital policies.
What have you gained from being a ScotlandIS member?
We have been able to both attend and take part in a number of valuable and prestigious events, including participating in Scottish Government-led IT events, which not only helps keep our business informed about the Scottish Tech sector but also allows our voice to be heard. We have also enjoyed some fantastic networking opportunities.
