The Digital Youth Work Conference, on 11 February 2025 (Safer Internet Day), aims to highlight the risk of scams for young people.
The Safer Internet Day consultation with young people currently identifies protection from scams as a top priority, making this the main focus for this year’s Safer Internet Day campaign.
The conference, organised by YouthLink Scotland, is primarily aimed at youth workers and aims to provide information, resources and good practice to help them support young people’s online lives.
Conference organiser, Hilary Phillips: “At YouthLink Scotland we are aware of the need to stay on the curve in relation to every aspect of digital. Technology evolves so quickly, and this event is a key place where youth workers can come together to hear what’s happening, share different approaches and develop their practice.
“Partnerships across different sectors are vital to do this well so we are delighted to have input from the tech sector, including a cyber security specialist as a keynote speaker, Jordan M Shroeder. We will also hear from Brian Baglow who heads up the Scottish Games Network and Dr Andrew Reid who lectures on games production at Abertay University.”
Youth workers from across Scotland and beyond will participate in the day along with others working with young people or seeking to develop and support the sector and understand the importance and reach of this work – all are welcome to attend.
Safer Internet Day is the UK’s biggest celebration of online safety, as well as an international campaign. Each year the event covers an online issue or theme that speaks about the things young people are seeing and experiencing online. Created in consultation with young people across the UK, this year Safer Internet Day will be focusing on the issue of scams online and for young people, how to protect themselves and others, as well as what support is available to them.
YouthLink Scotland is the collective voice of youth work. We represent and advocate for the sector so that all young people can access high-quality youth work. We strongly believe that a healthy and vibrant youth work sector can bring transformation, not only to the lives of young people but also to their families, communities, and society as a whole. Youth work can prevent many negative outcomes for young people and provide significant social return on investment.
