Tech Consultancy Appetite for Business has announced its certification as a B Corporation – the first digital skills and software provider in Scotland to achieve this.
Founded in 2016 Appetite for Business has a strong track record in delivering skills and software solutions using Microsoft Cloud technology to help companies innovate and grow with core domain experience across Energy and Renewables.
The B Corp certification validates Appetite for Business’s dedication to sustainability and belief and mission of doing business the right way.
“From day one as a business, we have operated from a place of purpose as well as profit says CEO Sheryl Newman. Despite numerous accolades including a Sunday Times Best Workplace award, Appetite for Business aimed for something higher and set the company sights on becoming a certified B Corporation. There is no faking it with B Corp, they prove you are a best employer with the most sustainable systems not just within our sector but across every industry. Having that stamp means our customers know that when they work with us, we have been assessed against some of the highest environmental and social standards. When you buy from us you are supporting a business that puts people and the planet at the heart and sustainable ethical solutions for customers”.
Appetite for Business is now part of a community of 7,000 businesses globally who have certified as B Corps. The B Corp community in the UK, representing a broad cross section of industries and sizes, comprises over 1,500 companies and includes well-known brands such as The Guardian, innocent, Patagonia, The Body Shop and organic food pioneers Abel & Cole.
The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’ operations and covers five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is rigorous, with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, the company will legally embed their commitment to purpose beyond profit in their company articles.
Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK, says “We are delighted to welcome Appetite for Business to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies who are committed to changing how business operates and believe business really can be a force for good. We know that Appetite are going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward”.
“Welcoming Appetite is an exciting moment because they are leading the way within the tech industry. We and the rest of the B Corp community are really pleased to support them as they continue to pave the way for a new way of doing things and their commitment and demonstration of doing business differently where people and planet are just as important as profit will be an inspiration to others.
