Following the news on Friday (6th August) that Apple plans on introducing new child safety features to its products, developed in collaboration with child safety experts, Ian Stevenson, CEO of Cyan and Chair of the Online Safety Technology Industry Association (OSTIA) provides his opinion on the development.
“Apple’s announcement is a significant one for the safety tech sector and the ongoing challenge of protecting children from harmful online content.
“While it remains to be seen whether Apple’s approach strikes the right balance between users’ rights and online safety, it is encouraging that such a major global organisation recognises how its products are being used to cause harm, and that they are exploring innovative and constructive ways to deal with the issue.”
Cyan is an Edinburgh-based scale-up whose technology helps law enforcement, social media and cloud companies find and block harmful online content from users such as paedophiles and terrorists.
