Cyber Security course secures major certification

Robert Gordon University’s (RGU) Graduate Apprenticeship (GA) in Cyber Security has been certified
by the UK Government’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

The NCSC is part of the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and this recognition
confirms that the course meets the NCSC Certification of Scottish Graduate Apprenticeships in Cyber
Security.

The GA course provides students with the skills required to become a successful cyber security
professional in this growing, fast paced sector and the certification emphasises the relevance of both
the content and standard of the degree. This is the second RGU degree certified by the NCSC after the
post-graduate Cyber Security course was granted certification in 2021.

Hatem Ahriz, Principal Lecturer at RGU’s School of Computing, Engineering and Technology, said:
“RGU is proud to announce that its Graduate Apprenticeship in MSc Cyber Security has been certified
by the NCSC. This prestigious certification is testament of the course team’s commitment to delivering
high-quality education that meets the evolving demands of the cyber security industry.

“The NCSC certification is a mark of excellence, ensuring that the curriculum aligns with the rigorous
standards required to develop the next generation of cyber security professionals. Students enrolled in
the programme will benefit from cutting-edge training and real-world experience, equipping them with
the skills necessary to combat the growing global threats in cyberspace.

“This certification further strengthens RGU’s reputation as a leader in cyber security education,
providing invaluable opportunities for both students and employers.”
Chris Ensor, NCSC Deputy Director for Cyber Growth, said: “I am delighted that Robert Gordon
University has had its Scottish Graduate Apprenticeship in Cyber Security course fully certified by the
NCSC.

“Offering an NCSC-certified apprenticeship helps students begin their career in the sector via a trusted
partnership between forward-thinking employers and education providers. It helps prospective students
make better informed choices about the quality of courses available, while employers can rest assured
that graduates will be well taught and have valued industry skills, demonstrating our shared
commitment to responsibly developing the cyber security talent pipeline of the future.”

The course covers topics which offer students a thorough grounding in:

– Information risk management
– Development of a successful security program
– Appraisal of security controls to meet business requirements
– Building and maintaining of secure networks
– Development and execution of vulnerability assessments and penetration tests
– Security operations and digital forensics

GAs are designed around the needs of business and industry and allow employees to continue to work
while they earn their degree over the course of up to four years.
