Scottish North American Business Council is leading a trade mission to North Carolina and surrounding areas on 8-11 April for businesses interested in exploring opportunities to expand their international trade activities. This mission will reach out across the state of North Carolina and potentially neighbouring States.
The UK Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the State of North Carolina in July 2022 this has led to thus far to:
- The promotion of trade and investment opportunities to SMEs between North Carolina and the UK; and tackle unnecessary barriers to trade cut costs ands slash paperwork to improve the business climate for UK companies.
North Carolina is the ninth largest state in the US in terms of population and its nearly $550bn GDP is approximately the size of Sweden’s. Its biggest city Charlotte is the second largest financial centre in the US after New York and the Piedmont region is famous for its world-leading clinical research hub, the Triangle.

As well as business opportunities there are also strong cultural ties between Scotland and North Carolina, which has the largest concentration of Scottish descendants of any state in the USA and holds annual Burns Nights, Tartan Day, Highland Games and Gathering of the Clans Celebrations.
What is involved?
As part of this trade mission delegates will receive market briefings on key opportunities in North Carolina networking events with business organisations in North Carolina and a series of one-to-one business meetings with potential clients or trade partners, based on your individual company requirements. This is a great opportunity for you to gain knowledge of this market at a relatively low cost. We arrange B2B meetings and special events, you pay the cost of your travel, accommodation and some subsistence during the mission.
Who can apply?
Open to any company in Scotland looking to grow their international trade activity in the USA. Companies do not need to be connected to the SNABC. Please note this is a cross-sector delegation.
