Informed Solutions to Drive Innovation in National Police Operations Through Advanced Data Science and Machine Learning with National Police Coordination Centre

Informed Solutions is proud to announce the award of a strategic digital partnership with the National Police Coordination Centre (NPoCC), focussed on digitally transforming national-scale, cross-force resource planning and coordination through the application of advanced data analytics and AI.

The extended three-year partnership will see Informed Solutions drive the next phase of data-driven transformation of the UK’s Mercury platform, a crucial cloud-based capability that supports NPoCC in managing police resources across 43 Home Office forces, Police Scotland, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), the Ministry of Defence Police, Civil Nuclear Constabulary and other agencies. Mercury enables the coordination of cross-force mutual aid, national emergency responses, and large-scale public events, ensuring effective policing and public safety.

Empowering Police Operations With Data-Driven Capabilities

The focus of the partnership is to leverage innovative technologies such as advanced data science, analytics and ML to provide new insights and predictive capabilities for police resource planning and capacity modelling. By enhancing the Mercury platform with these advanced technologies, NPoCC will be able to predict demand, better coordinate police resources, and continue to respond swiftly and efficiently to both planned and unplanned national-scale events in the future.

The further integration of leading-edge data technologies will provide the ability to better forecast and plan for future demand of police resources. This will enable NPoCC to ensure that personnel and equipment are positioned for maximum effectiveness during critical situations, improving the overall safety and security of the public.

Supporting National and International Police Collaboration

In addition to domestic coordination, Mercury also facilitates international police assistance through the Home Office International Police Assistance Service (IPAS). Informed Solutions will continue to support the enhancement of the IPAS platform, which enables the coordination of non-operational police assistance to international partners. This includes providing training, expertise, and resources to global law enforcement agencies through UK officers and commercial experts.

The partnership will also focus on continuous improvement, ensuring that the Mercury platform remains secure, scalable, and adaptable to the evolving demands of national and international policing. Informed Solutions will apply leading DevSecOps practices, delivering improved automation, security analysis, and ongoing platform and technology refinement to support NPoCC’s strategic priorities.

Looking Ahead: A Commitment to Continuous Innovation

Over the next three years, Informed Solutions will work closely with NPoCC to ensure that Mercury and IPAS evolve in line with user needs and national requirements and take advantage of the latest advances in data science and analytics. Through continued user-centred research and collaboration with police forces and stakeholders across the UK, the platform will continue to meet future challenges.

Chief Superintendent Matt Lawler, Head of NPoCC, commented: “Informed Solutions continues to be a key partner in our digital transformation journey. Their expertise in cloud, DevSecOps, Data Science and AI will see the development of capabilities that allow us to better anticipate demand and respond to it more effectively, ensuring we have real-time insights from data, and the right policing capabilities nationally when they are needed most.”

David Lawton, Chief Innovation Officer, Informed Solutions, added: “Large-scale digital platforms like Mercury require continuous user-engagement, engineering excellence and expertise in deploying innovation at scale to deliver national, interoperable, data-led policing capabilities.

Following our strategic re-platforming of Mercury to the Cloud, taking advantage of a host of leading cloud-native technology to deliver enhanced security and scalability, NPoCC now has the ability to rapidly innovate with the latest in advanced data science and analytics to deliver new strategic capabilities for the future.

We are incredibly proud to continue our strategic partnership with NPoCC, helping it stay at the forefront of innovation in the policing sector.”
