JANUARY START DATES FOR HERIOT-WATT GRADUATE APPRENTICESHIPS IN A BID TO BOOST SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Heriot-Watt University has created January start dates across a selection of its Graduate Apprenticeships programmes in a bid to help key sectors boost skills development.

As we come out of the pandemic, access to skills and talent will be critical to driving the economy. To support this, the University has launched new January start dates on its leading Graduate Apprenticeship programmes. Heriot-Watt is confident that the availability of January start dates on a selection of its fully-funded Graduate Apprenticeships will provide some timely additional flexibility for key sectors of the Scottish economy.

In response to demand for skills development from key sectors, Heriot-Watt has created January start dates for Graduate Apprenticeship programmes covering, Construction & Built Environment, Civil Engineering, Business Management and IT Management. These sectors, among others, are key areas in which building skills and developing talent will be important to the recovery of the Scottish economy.

Initiatives such as the University’s Responsive-Blended Learning model, along with a restructuring of course content has enabled the range of Graduate Apprenticeships programmes to accommodate the January start.

Gill Murray, Deputy Principal for Enterprise and Business, said “Delivering this additional flexibility to employers is an important step and it comes at an important time. Graduate Apprenticeships bring a number of benefits for employers. For example, upskilling the existing workforce, creating a pipeline of talented young people, improving employee retention and increased productivity. It’s also important to remember that it’s a priority for the Government, and all of us, to help young people into the workforce. Graduate Apprenticeships are an ideal way to do that.”

This development is part of a wider range of upskilling activities bring undertaken by the University, including new online Masters programmes and stand-alone digital CPD courses. The University will also shortly be relaunching its highly successful Upskilling Scotland Scholarship, which provides access to fully-funded masters-level courses.
