Caroline Jones Carrick, director of the TEV Project, a Scottish-based road technology initiative, is giving one female university student looking for a career in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM), the opportunity to meet some of the UK’s most inspirational women working in these industries.
According to research carried out by Nuclear Operations, at EDF Energy, one third of schoolgirls in Scotland think they are “not clever” enough and careers in STEM are more suited to boys. However, the research estimates that by 2020, the economy in Scotland will need an extra 2,000 university graduates with a STEM background to fill upcoming roles.
The Inspiring Women conference hosted by Management Today on Wednesday March 17 at the EICC, will see Caroline take part in a panel alongside Yvonne Brennan, group marketing manager Redefine BDL Hotels and Polly Purvis, Chief Executive of ScotlandIS. The three business leaders in their field will share their experiences of how women can be at the forefront of disruptive industries and companies in Scotland and beyond, and explore the approach required to attract more females so achieve successful careers in these industries.
Former F1 test driver Susie Wolffe, global toy design engineer Mamta Singhal, and Emma McGuigan, MD for Technology at Accenture UK and Ireland, will all also be speaking at the conference.
Caroline wants to give one female university student looking for inspiration in the STEM industries, the opportunity to meet some of the women at the conference, hear what they have to say about their careers and get first hand advice and inspiration to kick-start their careers.
To gain a place at this prestigious event, entrants must explain in 250 works (maximum) who inspires them and why. One winner will be chosen from the entries.*
